Work Agreements 2026: Types, Limits and Contributions

3 min read

Quick answer: In 2026 work outside an employment relationship comes in three forms, differing mainly in their hour limit and who they are meant for. The minimum pay is the same as the minimum wage, that is €5.259 per hour (2026). Below you will find the differences, the contributions and who each agreement is worth it for. Digitalportal

What types of agreements are there in 2026?

There are three agreements outside an employment relationship, each for a different kind of work:

Agreement Who it is for Hour limit
Work performance agreement (DoVP) a one-off task max 350 h/year SIA NEWS
Work activity agreement (DoPČ) regular smaller work an average of 10 h/week Danovy-poradca
Student agreement (DBPŠ) students up to 26 years of age 20 h/week

All of them are concluded in writing and for a fixed term.

How much can you earn under an agreement?

The minimum is €5.259 per hour; there is no upper limit and it depends on what you agree with the employer. Someone working under an agreement is also entitled to wage premiums for work on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays or at night — the same as an employee in an employment relationship. SIA NEWS

What contributions are paid from an agreement?

A typical person working under an agreement pays roughly 13.4% of their gross pay in social and health contributions. There are, however, exemptions where social contributions are not paid: FinReport

  • students up to 26 years of age (including the first year after finishing school) FinReport
  • old-age and disability pensioners
  • parents on parental leave
  • income up to €200 a month with a single employer FinReport

Income tax is generally 19%, but with a signed declaration for the non-taxable part of the tax base it can be zero at lower incomes. FinReport

Who is an agreement worth it for and who not?

An agreement is ideal for occasional, seasonal or smaller work alongside school or a job. If you work regularly and full time, though, a standard employment relationship is better because of the security and benefits, and at higher incomes a trade licence is better still.

Probationary Period 2026: Length, Rights and Termination

2 min read

Quick answer: In 2026 a probationary period can last at most 3 months, and 6 months for managerial employees (Section 45 of the Labour Code). It must be agreed in writing in the employment contract, otherwise it is invalid. Below you will find how it can be ended, whether it is extended and what rights you have during it. Jooble

How long does a probationary period last?

At most three months, and six for managerial employees. It must be agreed in writing in an employment contract concluded before you start — a verbal agreement is invalid. Jooble

If you do not have a probationary period in your contract, in legal terms it does not exist.

Can a probationary period be extended?

Not by agreement. It is extended only automatically by the days on which you did not work your shift because of an obstacle to work (sick leave, family care leave, holiday). Košice

Nor can it be agreed again for the same kind of work with the same employer.

How does employment end during the probationary period?

By written notification, and the employment ends on the day it is delivered — with no notice period. One important difference has applied since 2024: the employee may end it without giving a reason, but the employer must state a reason in the notification, otherwise the termination is invalid. Jooble

It is recommended that the notification be delivered at least 3 days in advance.

Am I entitled to severance pay or holiday during the probationary period?

To severance pay, no — that applies only on termination by notice or by agreement on organisational grounds. Entitlement to holiday can, however, arise during the probationary period. Košice

What to watch out for?

  • A verbally agreed probationary period is invalid — insist on having it in writing in the contract.
  • Longer than 3 months (or 6 for managers) is contrary to the law.
  • On returning to the same employer for the same work, a new probationary period cannot be agreed.
