Resignation Letter Template 2026: Notice Periods and How to Give Notice

3 min read

Quick answer: In 2026 the notice period is at least one month and gets longer depending on how long you have been with the company and who is giving notice. If the employment lasted less than a year, it is 1 month; if it lasted at least a year, 2 months (Section 62 of the Labour Code). Below you will find an overview of the periods and a resignation letter template. PROFESIA.SK

What are the notice periods in 2026?

The length of the notice period depends on how long the employment has lasted and on who is giving notice. Here is an overview:

Situation Notice period
Probationary period none (ends immediately)
Employment < 1 year 1 month
Employee gives notice, ≥ 1 year 2 months Danovy-poradca
Employer gives notice, ≥ 1 year 2 months
Employer, organisational grounds, ≥ 5 years 3 months PROFESIA.SK

Important: as an employee you do not get a three-month period purely because of length of service — two months at most.

When does the notice period start running?

The notice period starts running on the first day of the calendar month following delivery of the notice. It ends on the last day of the relevant month, once the given period has elapsed. Mrp

So if you give notice on 10 March and have a two-month period, it runs from 1 April and the employment ends on 31 May.

How to write a resignation letter (template)

Notice must be in writing and delivered to the other party. Here is a simple template for an employee:

[Name Surname, address]

[Employer name, address]

In [city], on [date]

Subject: Notice of termination of employment

I hereby give notice of termination of the employment relationship concluded on [date]

for the position of [position], pursuant to Section 67 of the Labour Code.

The notice period starts running on the first day of the calendar month

following delivery of this notice.

Kind regards,

You will find an editable version to download at the end of the article. The exact wording of the law is in the Labour Code.

Can I end my job without a notice period?

Yes, by an agreement on termination of employment — if you agree in writing with your employer on a specific day, the notice period does not apply. Employment also ends without a notice period during the probationary period.

Watch out for the protected period: an employer may not give notice to, for example, a pregnant employee, during maternity or parental leave, or during sick leave. PROFESIA.SK

Most In-Demand Professions 2026: Where Companies Are Hiring

2 min read

Quick answer: Companies in Slovakia are looking for people the most in healthcare, IT and transport — and there are a record number of vacancies, over 130,000 (Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family, 2026). It is precisely in these fields that you have the best chance of finding work quickly, often at above-average pay. Below you will find which professions are most in demand and where the pay is highest. Podnikajte

Which professions are most in demand in Slovakia?

There is a long-term shortage of workers above all in healthcare professions, in the IT sector and in lorry transport. Other fields with high demand join them: Pracovnepravo

  • healthcare and care work (doctors, nurses, carers)
  • IT and digital professions
  • transport and logistics (drivers, warehouse workers)
  • manufacturing and engineering, including the automotive industry
  • construction and skilled trades
  • hospitality and services

Why is there such demand for these professions?

The reason is a combination of an ageing population, digitalisation and a shortage of domestic labour. The biggest growth in job opportunities is in services — in IT, healthcare, education and finance — and the automotive industry is creating many jobs as well, while demand for technical and digital skills is growing. Advokatvernarec

Which in-demand professions pay the most?

The highest salaries among the in-demand fields are in IT and finance. While in IT the average salary exceeds €2,600, in finance it is even over €3,100 — you will find specific figures by industry in the average salary 2026 overview.

Is it worth reskilling into an in-demand profession?

If you are in a field with low demand, moving into an in-demand profession can significantly improve both your chances and your pay. The state also supports reskilling through national projects, thanks to which you can obtain training free of charge.
